Combat-Wounded Veteran Climbing Mt. Denali
Follow Jonathan Kuniholm ’02, ’03 MID, MS on this U.S. Department of Defense blog as he and three other combat-wounded veterans climb Alaska’s 20,430-foot Mt. Denali over the next 15 days as part of Operation Denali: Man vs. Mountain.
. . . It’s onward and upward for the group. Not only will they face all the usual difficulties the mountain presents, each will tackle their individual challenges resulting from their own disabilities.
Kuniholm, whom NC State magazine featured in its Spring 2008 issue, lost his right arm to a roadside bomb in Iraq and began climbing North America’s highest mountain today with three other veterans “to symbolize the strength of [the U.S.] and those who defend it.”
In addition to the blog, the team has a detailed itinerary and a GPS feed so you can track their progress live. We’ll share highlights with you over the next several weeks.

Kuniholm was recently featured on 60 Minutes showing his work in helping advance prosthetics technologies, such as controlling the movement of a prosthetic hand simply by thinking about it. Skip ahead to 10:24 to see him.
