Cary Man Creates Corn Maze to Honor Kay Yow

10.14.2009

From the N&O, a story about Michael Phillips and the Kay Yow corn maze he created at his family’s Cary farm:

There are corn mazes. And then there are corn monuments.

Michael Phillips would like to show you the difference.

In June, he planted some seeds. In August, he began cutting. Last month, he unveiled his memorial: Kay Yow meticulously rendered in a swath of tall stalks and bumpy pathways.

He didn’t know of a better way to honor a legend.

A portion of the $10 admission fee goes to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. WRAL featured the Phillips farm in August and had a quick flyover shot of the field. You can see the video here.
