Jump On In

Jaw-dropping. Insane. Crazy. That's how Chris Holmes describes many of today's jump-rope tricks and routines. A world jump-rope champion, he's been involved in the sport for more than 20 years, first as a competitor and now as a judge and the operator of jumpropevideos.com. The links to the videos from his site below don't necessarily feature current or incoming NC State students, but they reflect how dynamic, athletic and entertaining jump rope can be.

The first video shows the Grand Central Station, which Holmes says may be "hardest double Dutch trick ever invented." The last two highlight the difference between the double Dutch freestyle routines performed at USA Jump Rope competitions and the hip-hop-inspired fusion routines performed at the National Double Dutch League's Double Dutch Holiday Classic. For information about the difference between USA Jump and the National Double Dutch League, check out our "Big Dreams on Big Screen" story for the documentary Doubletime.
