Military TIes

Like most land-grant universities, NC State had close ties to the military from its first day of classes in 1889. In the early years, students were required to wear uniforms and march in military drills. The Reserve Officer Training Corps program started in 1917, and at least two years of participation was mandatory for all male students until the 1960s. Those requirements often translated into service in the armed forces after graduation — and many alumni have earned high ranks.

This Web feature highlights the accomplishments of these officers.
